Favorite Find of the Day: Audible Kids
When I was pregnant with Thing One (wow, has it been 14 years!) I started reading books as a way to escape into a world that was much prettier (or, crazier) than mine.
Luckily, I've passed the love of reading onto my two oldest girls (they inhaled the entire Twilight Series, last summer) and even my youngest daughter (she's 6) is currently enjoying her first chapter book, The Fairy Chronicles.

My 9 year-old son, not so much.
He'd much rather taser a couple of unruly aliens, or watch the destruction of the Death Star...for the 1,000th time.
That's why I was interested in checking out website like AudibleKids.
What is it?
Sort of like, Good Reads meets Netflix - just like it sounds, AudibleKids.com is a place where kids, parents, educators and authors can download and share their favorite children's audio books.
How?
Search through over 4,000 titles and content can be downloaded directly from the Internet onto digital audio devices and over 500 models of audio players including the Apple iPod, PDAs, mobile phones and streaming media devices.
With AudibleKids.com, you can also:

For those of us who like to take their time and scan inside book covers before making a decision...cough, cough...AudibleKids.com allows you to listen to samples of audio books offered, like Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss - read by Jason Alexander, David Hyde Pearce and Michael McKeon.
We had a chance to review the website and I loved the idea of having our family's favorite picks and recommendations, all in one place.
The selections are broken down into categories, by grade and age appropriate to:
- Ages 0 - 4
- Ages 5 - 7
- Ages 8 - 10
- Ages 11 - 13
- Ages 13 & up
Another favorite feature is, with AudibleKids.com, you can set up sub accounts for your children and provide them with an allowance, too - which makes for perfect birthday and holiday gift ideas for friends and family.
The final verdict: AudibleKids.com is a fun way to get kids interested in reading books, enjoy listening to stories and perhaps get my son excited about finally getting through his summer reading list...sort of. You can also explore audio books for grown ups at Audible.com.
Oh, and their headquarters are in Jersey!
