[This giveaway has ended and we have OUR WINNER - Congratulations, Pamela Vest!]
In 1995, LeapFrog was founded after a dad discovered that the toy market offered nothing to help his 3-year-old learn phonics. It's the year that LeapFrog introduced its first product (the Phonics Desk) and the company has consistently been coming up with cool interactive toys to help parents (like me) teach kids basic skills, ever since.
Including, mine.
That's why I was very excited to be given the chance to review the new Didj - LeapFrog's newest entry into the highly competitive hand held gaming system market - oh, and my kids thought that...you know...it was pretty cool, too!

The Didj is the first hand held system that connects to your computer to customize gaming and learning:
- Sync the games to skills you’re studying in school. Download your own spelling words or math problems. Create a custom spelling list from the 10,000-word database and study for next week's test.
- Play for points, then trade them online to customize your games with characters, backgrounds, music sound effects – if you've got the points, you call the shots. You can even create and play as your own Didji character in the online Didjerator.
- You can choose skins and jellies that show your style – or swap them around to suit your mood.
Every time the Didj is connected to your computer, detailed play data is transferred to your child's Learning Path online, so you can see exactly which skill areas your child is most engaged with, know when your child has started playing with content above their grade level, and even get a view into the actual questions your child has answered during play.
Mini-Me (she's 7) is learning math facts in 2nd grade and she really liked the challenge of completing addition or times table, in order to advance to the next level.
But, The Boy (he's 9) had this to say:
"Even for us older kids, Didj is fun to play. Though it may look babyish, you can have a great time on it and it is a good pick-up-and-go game. I like going online, adding to the Didj and the games are helpful AND fun. To get through each level, you have to do multiple math facts. I didn't think I'd ever like doing the math."
So, there you have it!
Games include Sponge Bob Square Pants, Star Wars, Nancy Drew, Indiana Jones - to name a few of our family's favorites. I was impressed by the overall quality of the graphics and the screen resolution (3.2" full-color 320x240 LCD) is truly one of the best I've seen in a hand held, ever.
