When looking for fun kid party ideas: Just Add Cake!

Justaddcake_2 Seriously - these kids' birthdays are lasting way longer than...well...the actual labor, really - my three oldest children were born in November, December and January.

I'm all birthday-ed-out, man!

With that said, I think I should tell you that my kids have never had a "themed-party."

Are you surprised?

Most people are and Katy - Owner of Just Add Cake - was kind enough to send us one of their kids' parties and, I have to tell you, she had me at her email:

Good afternoon!  I am interested in submitting one of our party box products for your review.  After reading a little bit about your family I think the Girlfriend's Pajama Party might be the best fit.

Now, THAT'S what I call a perfect product pitch!

Alphabet Rockers: Brings Hip Hop to Children's Music

AlphabetrockersI have four children - I know, that you know, but my husband some times STILL needs to be reminded - and we probably own ten times the amount of music tapes and discs.

I'd give you an accurate count, if I could, but they're ALL in my car and scattered throughout the house.

Last week, I received a package from the nice people at School Time Music.

"Oh, look, ANOTHER children's CD!"

For those of you who do NOT know, Thing Two had a terrible case of colic and did NOT sleep for the first 8 months after she was born.

[shiver]

Seriously, I was at my wit's end - nothing funny about a colicky kid - until, I figured out that strapping her into the car seat and driving her around town, while listening to [GULP] a freaky-looking dinosaur with the totally annoying voice WAS the only thing that would soothe the child!

Me?

[gag]

After listening to about two tracks, I wanted to shoot myself.

"Let's play it, Momma!"

Mini-me (she's 6) is my youngest and probably spent a large portion of her preschool years in the minivan, too.

"Go ahead and pop it in, then."

Because, I am a DORK and - you know, sort of break things - besides, kids are so far advanced these days, yes?

Listen up everybody this day is live!
Before we get into the mix
Let's get our bodies moving,
And sing along, for kicks!

Hey, wait a minute and what the...

"Momma, are you playing rap music!?!?"

I'm a little bit classical and Thing Two (formerly known as the colicky one) is totally hip hop.

"Boy, you go Miss Thang, that's DEF!"

If she means good, then yes - and I'd be lost without my Urban Dictionary - but, Alphabet Rockers is definitely a children's CD that even a parent (like me) can listen to.

This is the first of a series of cool children's CDs Former 4 Non Blondes drummer Dawn Richardson and Kaitlin McGaw, a Harvard graduate who also sings for Suite Love Express, partnered to write and produce.

My opinion - the concept of giving parents (and teachers) a fresh new way to introduce children to letters, words and numbers, combined with rhythm and rhyme - this cd is nothing less than BRILLIANT!

The downside - besides the fact that a 14-song CD just doesn't seem enough, NONE.

"The CD has a vibe of Salt n' Pepa, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys all rolled into fun for the classroom."

With that said, not only did these two artists create a fun new way of getting children interested in learning - heaven knows, The Boy could have used this - Dawn and Kaitlin ARE commanding educators' attention, worldwide and on the web, and HAVE sparked my interest in, you know, cool music!

For that, my children thank you ;o)

Alphabet Rockers is available at Amazon.com for $14.99.

Theme Party Ideas: Kodak Single Use Cameras Tackle the Colors of the Rainbow.

Party_new_250x200 Being a mother of 4 children, and having planned my fair share of celebrations, I feel it's safe for me to say that they really do grow up so fast.  It seems like only yesterday, thinking on it now, and I remember a time - although, it seems so very long ago - when I was much more organized!

What happened?

4 baptisms, 10 graduations, 14 Halloweens, Christmases, Easters and any other celebration that required me to bathe and dress them, you know, nice...um...and don't forget...the chronological blowing out of the candles on 38 birthday cakes...THAT'S WHAT!

When I think of all the film we MUST have developed over the years...PHEW!...I think it's about time someone else take their pictures, yes?

Wedding_new_250x200 Pretty much the whole reason I jumped on reviewing Kodak's new Single Use Camera - okay, so it was more like a leaning deep into my mailbox and smiling broadly - still.  The idea of not having to futz around with batteries, flashes and simply having to place a few cameras around a table...well, it makes me wish I had somewhere to go.  A birthday party, wedding, or something.

Riiiiight.

Did I mention that we're...uh...broke and that Christmas is just around the corner?

No matter - the kids are smart and my husband Garth (not his real name) and I...ugh...well, we're rooting for scholarships - I was, however, pleased to able to capture my children preparing for our This Full House Ghosting Adventures and share of few of the product features with you:

  • Available exclusively for purchase through the KODAK Store (click here) beginning in October, 2007.
  • Sold in 10-pack increments at a price of $79.50.
  • Includes Kodak's 800-speed film providing unbeatable clarity and sharpness resulting in high quality points.
  • Bright, sophisticated new looks and an easy-to-use design.
  • Fun, reliable alternative when an expensive camera isn't available.

Since, my digital/video camera is not, you know, working and both batteries are appropriately dead for Halloween!

3_2

Here's Thing One, insisting that (at 13) she's too old for trick-or-treating and trying to convince me that her interest in the art of Chinese Tatooing is only temporary.  Notice the clarity in colors and how truly purple their room really is.

8

No, that's NOT really Thing Two's hair - although, she really DOES want to dye it...GULP...black - she's going out as a Goth Bride, tomorrow.  I know.  But, the kid is 11, an honors student and what can I do...besides, you know, ask that you pray for me?

4_2

Mini-Me is 6 and...well, as multi-faceted as our den is...apparently...and are your eyeballs burning, yet?

26_2

Good - then, you can see just how bright, bold and beautiful this shot is and perhaps consider turning a blind eye to whatever in the world is going on with my 8 year-old son!

No matter - you can request your photos on a cd and can burn edit your photos however you like - the kids and I had fun filling up the entire roll with such silliness and are the envy of parents, everywhere.

No, not really.  But, with Kodak's Recycling Program, I was happy to hear that we can at least all go a little green:

Kodak recycles - at least 80% of this camera by weight will be reused or recycled when your photofinisher returns it to Kodak.

Oh, and pink...too:

The KODAK Store is committed to help in the fight against breast cancer.  To do our part, we're donating 10% (with a Guaranteed Minimum Donation of $15,000) to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure for every item purchased from the KODAK Store's exclusive Go Pink! Collection.

You can visit the rest of our pictures, here and perhaps consider KODAK for your future celebration and/or holiday needs!
