Blogging Out Hunger: We Can't Let This Bank Fail!

Community-food-bank-of-new-jersey My blogging friend and fellow Jersey Girl Deborah Smith of JerseyBites.com is coordinating a blogging campaign on behalf of The Community Food Bank of New Jersey.

This Bank Can't Fail is scheduled to launch December 15th.

The goal is to get 100 New Jersey bloggers spreading the word about the desperate need that The Community Food Bank of New Jersey is in due to the increased demands being put on New Jersey food pantries.

Why?

Because, blogging can be a beautiful thing and the keyboard is mightier than the sword, or something like that.

You from Joisey - did I mention, Bruce Springsteen is doing his part to help?

The Sisterhood of Our BlubHer Overhaul

Looking over my publishing calendar (I know, I know, what's a mommy like me doing writing about important stuff, anyway?) I can't believe that I never blogged about this.

I mean, there's this cute little button publishing on my sidebar for weeks that leads to Our BlubHer Overhaul.

What?

A few of us gals decided to get together and do a bloggy support group for weight loss.  Each of us has our own agenda - mine is to feel more confident about myself and look a little less like, you know, a deer in headlights at BlogHer 2009 - but, we are united in our support and acceptance of each other, even when it seems like the rest of the world is, you know, wearing skinny jeans.

For example, admitting to my adult dressing room disorder (ADRD) and then finding the perfect little black dress that even a mom (like me) can wear.

Meet the women of The Blub-Blub Sisterhood:

Blog the Recession Month - Helping my fellow bloggers out, one click at a time!

[8/15/08 Edited to Add: I borked-up my blog and accidentally disappeared ALL comments - sorry, if I lost yours - because, I am A DORK!]

I was so busy trying to squeeze every bit of low-tech fun out of summer that I possibly could, while staying away from using the car, too much and trying NOT to drive my kids, too hard (or, anywhere for that matter) I almost missed this one!

Did you know it's Blog the Recession Month?

Hot Links of The Week: 7/28/08

Blogwatch

The kids and I are aunt-sitting, today -- my dad's youngest sister is visiting from Hungary and she's graciously accepted to stay with US for a few days and HAS exclusive use of our couch -- so, I'm surprising her with a visit to a local spa for some much-deserved pampering (hers, not mine) and trading in a couple of gift cards I got for my birthday.

Because, I roll like that.

Got some great blogging-type-stuff in the works...like, telling you about some great causes I've joined, a couple of trips to NYC and expanding/revamping our family blog project...but, while I brush up on my Hungarian, here's some OTHER stuff you might like:

On Teens Today:  I had the pleasure of meeting Vanessa Van Petten at BlogHerCon 2008, author of "You're Grounded!" and keeper of one of the best resources for parents AND teens!

This Full House Reviews:  Safety Caps - A Dad Inventor's safe solution to standard-size safety plugs!

This Full House Kids:  Jonas Brothers - Just a couple of kids from Jersey!

Our Latest Giveaway:  Care Bears Baby Gift Package ends tomorrow (Tues. 7/29) at 5:00 p.m.!

In the meantime, if you need me, the kids and I will be hanging out in some calmly-decorated reception area, listening to very sleepy music and consuming all the fresh fruit and lemon water, that we possibly can, do doubt!

Did I mention, food shopping for 6 can get, you know, really EXPENSIVE!?!?

Mommyfest: An Interactive Online Event for Moms!

Being a mom is hard - although, I also believe that my husband Garth (not his real name) could really use a day off, or two - but, blogging about raising kids and killer dust bunnies makes life seem...I dunno... a lot more...you know...livable.

Especially, when you get to invite your friends over to your place, meet a couple hundred-or-so moms, listen to some really great speakers and you don't even have to take a shower, clean the house, get dressed, or anything...if you don't want to.

Did I mention there will be contests and a bunch of free stuff to choose from?

PBN Blog Blast: All I want for Mother's Day

The Parent Bloggers Network has teamed up with Johnson and Johnson to promote their new charitable giving site, Johnson’s Baby Cause, powered by Global Giving.

As part of their responsibility to the global community, Johnson’s has hand-selected dozens of charities around the world that mirror their deep commitment to caring for the health and well-being of mothers and children - not just on Mother’s Day, but every day of the year.

This is the 100th Anniversary of Mother's Day and my 15th year of raising kids -- not to mention, killer dust bunnies -- in this mother-loving world of comfortable running shoes and matching hoodies.

So, as a mother of a teen, a tween, a precocious 1st grader and The Boy who refuses to admit he is NOT getting a brother for Christmas, what could I possibly want for Mother's Day?

A Perfect Post for April - So, You From Wisconsin?

Beachwalking

The kids and I recently had the pleasure of introducing my friend Dana (she's from Wisconsin) to her first seaside experience, not to mention the best damned "boardwalk pizza" in the Garden State!

Okay, New Jersey is not perfect - people are buying gas less and spending most of their money on groceries, including us - but, I'm comforted by the fact that waterfront is at least within walking distance.

Until, I read my friend Cheryl's post on how she was, you know, okay with leaving the waves behind - she's ALSO from Wisconsin.

New Jersey Moms Blog Launched, Today!

Newjerseymomsblog250

Last month, I was asked by the lovely Jill Asher (co-founder of Silicon Valley Moms Group) if I'd be interested in writing for an upcoming new sister site, for New Jersey mom bloggers.

"Hey, you know, I'm from Jersey!"

Well, yah...and DUH!

Today, I am thrilled to tell you that the site has officially launched and...GUESS WHAT...I even got to write the introduction:

Mommy Blog Carnival: Tax Day Comic Relief Edition

Mommyblogcarnival_3

Well, hello there and welcome to the April 15, 2008 edition of the Mommy Blog Carnival!

What?

Oh yeah, it's Tax Day and...OOOOOOOH...the horror.  If you haven't finished filing your taxes, yet...take a deep breath...and remember to just...you know...breathe, or think about what all the poor IRS and postal employees must be going through, right about now.

[moment of silence]

I thought I would kick-off this week's carnival with intros from a few of my most favorite funny women and invite you to share in a little comic relief on Tax Day, as Uncle Sam mixes it up with the Mommybloggers!

The Difference Between You and Me is I Make Other Moms Look Good!

Usually, women like Motherhood Uncensored intimidate me.  I mean, COME ON, all you have to do is take one look at her to know that she is most likely someone a mom (like me) could grow to hate, very easily.

But, I can't.  Because, she's smart...OH...and she really is very sweet, in person, too...damnit.

I guess that's why, after reading her post about how parents...ahem...with older kids (like me) sometimes have trouble remembering just how difficult living in the baby-toddler vacuum really is, I was bothered by my initial reaction.

[insert eye-roll, chuckle, fake head nod, here]
