"I'm bored," followed by, "There's nothing to do," are two sentences that my kids know better than to utter anywhere near me, or within an audible range - put them together, and you've pretty much got a full-blown mommy-meltdown on your hands!
"Have you checked the toy box, lately?"
If your tech-savvy kid needs recharging, chase the little bugger outside and launch a couple of butterflies - like I did!
Sometimes, electronic toys scare me. But, Mini-me (she's 6) was already a big fan of WowWee toys - their FlyTech Dragonfly was named one of TIME Magazine's Best Inventions of the year - so, when my friends at 360 Public Relations were kind enough to send her a butterfly, this spring...well...I swear, she squealed and scared our dog half-to-death!
She really wanted Sky Dancers for Christmas, but Thing One (she's 14) had a couple of them at her age and nearly poked her eyes out.
They've since been recalled as a very bad toy and sales were suspended in June 2000, btw.
The cool thing about the FlyTech Butterfly - besides, the fact that the toy runs on rechargeable batteries - is that it's wings look very elegant (just like a butterly) yet, the light weight construction makes it easy for little hands to hold and the body tested as totally crash-resistant.
Honestly, the dog thought it was a real bug and batted it right out of the sky.
FlyTech Butterfly comes fully assembled - THANKYOUVERYMUCH! - so, all you have to do is connect the butterfly to its perch, it will flap its wings to let you know it's charging and a gentle pull of the launch trigger (think: water gun) will release it into the air, allowing it to flutter and twirl, like a real butterfly!
Even The Boy (he's 9) thought it was cool how it flew, sort of like a remote-controlled airplane, only this toy is safe enough for indoor flying.
Just, you know, lock up the dog and hide the really expensive pretties.
The approximate retail price of the FlyTech Butterfly is $24.99, requires 3 "AAA" batteries (not included) and the product will also be available in Mosquito and Moth designs for boys, too.
BOOYAH!
