[Edited to Add: Comments on this giveaway are now closed - WE HAVE A WINNER announced, via PRIZEY!]
School's out for summer, but my kids wish that school was out...FOREVER! Oh sure, with 4 school-aged children living in the house, it's nice to be able to disconnect from the crazy timetable. Still. They ALL brought home their summer reading packets -- my 7-year-old's reading list is about a mile long -- this is to help parents (like me) stave off the negative effects of "summer loss."
Apparently, most kids lose one to three months of learning over the summer.
But, what if your child is like mine (The Boy had a really hard time with reading at the end of 1st grade) and he, or she is just not all that into reading?
Oh, I knew that my son would, one day, learn to read (eventually) but, it was a struggle. Quite frankly, being an avid reader, I couldn't understand how a child of mine could not love reading.
Then, I was contacted by LeapFrog and soon learned that there were a lot of other parents with kids (like mine) who insisted that reading was "boring," which is pretty much the reason they've created the Tag Reading System.
However, my youngest daughter (she's 7) just finished the 1st grade and is reading at a much higher level than her brother.
Yes, it's wonderful. On the other hand, Mini-me spends half as less time reading and then we're right back to square one.
"I'm bored!"
AGAIN?
So, while she leafed through Fancy Nancy - one of her favorite books - I pulled out the TAG Reading System, inserted the CD, hooked up the reader to my laptop, downloaded the audio file from LeapFrog's website and clicked the TAG.
"Hey, can I read with it?"
Yes, it was that easy.
How It Works: TAG comes with a storybook that is already loaded into the reader and allows you to transfer up to 5 books at once. You simply touch the page with TAG and begin reading words separately, or the entire page at once. Then, play games (at 3 levels) by touching the pictures and answering questions about the story. Kids can also listen to stories on the go, by simply pressing the "audio book" button on the reader to hear the entire story aloud. You can even track your child's reading progress online with LeapFrog's Parents Connect.
Final Verdict: The TAG Reading System is very easy to use (thank you, LeapFrog) and I believe is a great way to get your child interested in books and reading! Mini-me enjoyed playing the word games and loved for me to "verse her" in a word hunt. I'd call out a word on the page and she would touch it with the reader. SCORE! We're taking it on vacation with us on the 2+ hour car ride to Cape May, NJ. There's even a volume control and headsets are available (Daddy says, "Thank you VERY MUCH, LeapFrog!") and the TAG reader turns off, automatically, after non-use, or if your child falls asleep, after only a few minutes.

Let us pray.
