[WE HAVE A WINNER - Congratulations, Robyn!!!]
I think it was Albert Einstein, who said:
"Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen."
Clearly, he was a brilliant man -- says, the woman who can't even type the word physicists without heavily relying on her spell checker -- I can't help but wonder, if his children ever remembered to put the cap back on the tooth paste tube, or perhaps they also were prone to leaving the toilet paper roll...empty...AGAIN!
Still.
Besides, learning that Albert Einstein was, in fact, also a dad -- thank you, Google -- I've recently found out that there's a whole community of people who are dying to know what the deal is with, you know, flushable (or, is it flushible) wipes?
Like, me!
It's called Scott Common Sense and, surprisingly enough, it's just NOT all about which way you should be hanging the toilet paper!
[cough...on the outside...cough...cough]
I was recently asked to join their online community and headed on over (yeah, I roll like that) to see what the deal was.
You know what?
I did find some really useful tips, on several homey-type issues we're dealing with at our house at the moment, from other members who are...you know...way smarter than me...and here are only a few useful tidbits of information:
Easy Organizing - Storing Gift Wrap Rolls
To store rolls of gift wrap, I put them inside a roll of a full-size construction paper. Rolls of construction paper are shorter than rolls of gift wrap, so you can still see the design on them when they are inside. If you have only 3-4 rolls of gift wraps, roll the construction paper tightly, as your collection grows, keep making the roll bigger.
Healthy Hints - Healthy eating
This was not not as hard as my husband and I expected. Remove everything from your kitchen that you're not supposed to eat: junk food, processed food and, in my case, wheat. We now are grabbing more fruit and vegetables for snacks and meals. Also, what helps me is a light dessert: sugar-free, fat-free jello or pudding with fat-free Cool-whip or a fat-free, sugar-free ice cream bar. We never buy it in cartons -- it tempts us. This works! We feel better and we are both losing weight.
Cooking Tips - Aluminium Foil
Wrap your cookie sheet with foil before you do your baking. After baking, remove the foil and throw it away. Ta da... your cookie sheet is still clean. No washing to be done! Also, before you bake anything in Pyrex or use your stainless steel cooking pan, spray it with non-stick cooking spray. It will save you time and effort in washing off any stains left after using it.
Dollars & Sense - Saving Money
When you clip coupons, put them in envelopes for each month of expiration. When you are ready to do your shopping, use the sales in each store to make your list; then go to your envelopes to use your coupons.
Everyday Sense - Travel with SCOTT Towels
We always pack sheets of SCOTT Towels for airline trips (handy for spills, wiping off tray tables, use as napkins) and also for use in hotel rooms (cleaning the phones, remotes, etc.)
Neat & Clean - Traveling to a Potluck Supper
The next time you are taking something out of the oven and taking it somewhere else to eat, wrap the item in a big towel to help keep it warm, help in handling it, and prevent spills and movement during travel.
But, wait...there's more...from product tips to clever online tools:
- Grocery check list
- Recipe substitution chart
- Trip cost calculator
- Fuel efficiency quiz
Okay, I happen to think that there is some really great advice being tossed around at Scott Common Sense and from customers who happen to be, you know, real people. I like that. It's also the sort of stuff that families (like mine) can mostly relate to.
Notice how I left "Neat & Clean" for last?
The only OTHER thing I can really, really use - having 4 kids and all - however, is if someone offered me a year's supply of free toilet paper and paper towels!
