Bloggers invited to the premier of Glamour Reel Moments (left to right) Cindy (Hello Dollface!), Nadine (Jolie Nadine), Amy (Mom Advice), Michelle (Scribbit), Dawn (Because, I Said So), Lianne (The Makeup Girl), Liz (This Full House) and Beth (Role Mommy)!
Suave invited me to attend the 2008 Glamour Reel Moments film festival, this week (I do NOT know how that happened, either) hosted by Glamour Magazine. You see, the magazine holds a contest (three years, now) where readers submit their stories and then famous actresses pick their favorite idea and make it into a short film.
Why?
There's a shortage of women directors in Hollywood (I know, act surprised anyway) and Kirsten Dunst, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Rita Wilson and Gwyneth Paltrow have all made their directorial debuts with Glamour Reel Moments, which helps promote women in film.
This year?
Glamour Reel Moments is sponsored by Suave and I just love their current ad campaign (have you seen this commercial, yet?) and it's pretty clear that Suave is committed to helping mothers feel pretty, all over again!
I'm pretty sure it IS the reason they asked ME, anyway.
[smiles and breaks camera, again]
So, here's what happened.
I took a direct flight from Newark, NJ to L.A. (thank you, Suave) and spent the next 5 1/2 hours stressing wondering what it would feel like for a mom (like me) to, you know, go all Hollywood and then learned first-hand...soon after I was met by...[giggle]...my driver!
"This is freakin' awesome!"
To calm my nerves (yeah, I don't get out much) I chatted a little with...[snort]...my driver.
"Yeah, I'm from Jersey, how'dya guess?"
We stayed at The Sofitel and, let me tell you, they don't call it a "luxury hotel" for nothin' - just look how prettiful the bed is and...YES...it was as fluffy and delicious as it looks!
But, the bathroom...oh, Lord in heaven...was as big as my bedroom and the shower was what made me think that I just may, you know, never leave.
Then, I saw this really pretty basket and SCREAMED.
"You kiddin' me, a freakin' Flip!"
Aaaaand, nearly gave the cleaning lady across the hall a heart attack.
Time waits for no one - yes, dear fluffy and delicious bed, you my precious, would have to wait - so, I dropped my bag and headed over to find Dawn and Cindy.
Hello, Dollface is right - the woman is adorable and very, very blonde - Cindy is originally from Jersey (isn't everyone?) and we hit it off, right away.
Dawn and I survived Johnson & Johnson's Camp Baby and we were both thrilled to be given the opportunity to share mojitos, together...in freakin' Hollywood!
Then, the next day, I got to share a car with Michelle (I mean, who doesn't read Scribbit?) as we drove...that is...our driver...[giggle]...took us over to Lukaro in Beverly Hills...[snort]...for our hair and nail appointments.
It's called Pompeii Purple and all the rage in Hollywood, according to the pedicurist - although, the woman who did my fingernails insisted that drawing attention to my nails would probably be, you know, NOT a good idea - but, it was pretty funny to have both my hands and feet done at once and you should have seen me trying to twist in two different directions.
Because, well, I forgot to take my camera. No worries, though. Apparently, there was someone there who took pictures of me (thank you Suave) the big dork!
Like, the before, with owner Luke O'Connor and the very prettiful "after" shot of Lukaro's handiwork (even though, I did have my haircut 3 days before going to L.A.) Luke set to work, cut a wee bit more and made me feel prettiful using the following Suave products:
- Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner
- Extra Hold Gel
- Freeze Extra Hold Hairspray
In 4 easy steps:
- Apply gel to roots, working it into base, lift [hair] & dab gel.
- Dry on low setting, blowing air up.
- Finish with extra gel on dry hair. Pinch through hair.
- Hold hairspray 8-10 inches w/spurts of spray.
That was easy!
Then, Michelle and I met up with Amy (another Baby Camper) and we headed over to Mann's Chinese...I mean...Grauman's Theater...uh...whatever the heck you call the place with the hand and foot prints. Doesn't matter...[giggle]...our driver knew where it was.
Right in front of the Hollywood Walk of Fame and I took this pic (with my mom's camera, I broke mine, remember?) it's for my friend Chrissy, whose husband swears she gets all frisky whenever she sees (or, hears) anything about Ricky Martin - you're welcome, Nick!
Hollywood is filled with an eclectic assortment of people, where everyone is an actor, knows a screenwriter, wants to be Batman, or something!
Unfortunately, even Batman couldn't help Captain America talk his way out of getting a ticket. For what? I dunno. Maybe, he just left his day pass at home, or something.
But, Elvis kissed Amy and...um...she liked it!
[snort]
Moving on.
Oh, my two youngest (they are 7 and 9) just LOVE watching the old Abbott and Costello movies my husband, Garth (not his real name) has on DVD.
I took this for my 12 and 14-year-old daughters (we are BIG fans of Family Jewels) and then didn't realize, until I got home, that it was this Jean Simmons and not Gene Simmons from Kiss, because I am A DORK!
And Johnny Depp has really small hands, the poor thing.
Oh, and did you know that the 9th floor of the Roosevelt Hotel is supposedly haunted by Montgomery Cliff.
[counting]
Weird.
Then, we got back to the hotel in time to change and head over to have sushi at...ahem...Nobu!?!?
That's right...NO-freakin-BU...and yeah that's me...sitting next to Michelle (honestly, you really should be reading Scribbit) and I thought she looks an awful lot like Laura Dern, don'tcha think!?!?
Guess what? It was her first time eating sushi, can you tell? She got it down, though.
Then, Amy went to the bathroom and got hugged by a supermodel (May Anderson) and can you blame her, Amy is just so gosh-darned cute!
Then, she hugged Cindy and I'm thinking - suffering from a severe lack of the photogenic gene - I'm so glad I didn't have to go to the bathroom, this time, or be caught DEAD being photographed with a supermodel!
[accidentally forgets to bring camera, on purpose]
Only in Hollywood, kids and wait until you hear what happened next - read more about Day 2, here!
