Welcome to Day 7 of our Holiday Picks & Giveaways 2008 (November 24 - December 1) sponsored by some of the most awesomely generous brands I know, who have graciously agreed to provide some really cool stuff for Her, Him, the Grandparents...okay, isn't it time we ALL put the WIN back into the winter holidays and made re-gifting a rule?!?
Seriously, I've got some really great stuff to share with you.
Our kick-off giveaway drew over 170 entries -- Holy Craps! -- what a great way to celebrate the beginning of Thanksgiving week!
Raising 4 kids (we'll have two teenagers in the house, this year) my husband, Garth (not his real name) and I are trying (really hard) to remember to take back the holidays and keep it as stress free as...well...you know, we've got a little something for everyone and giving away some pretty cool stuff, too:

Day 2 - For Him: Man Spa Gift Package from Sothys Paris - Because, He's Worth It...too!
Day 3 - For the Home: Deck the Halls, Clean the Floors and Green Gift Giving

Day 7 - For the Toy Box: The Discovery Store
Day 8 - Gifts that Give Back: Save the Oceans, Adopt a Creature!
My picks, product features and blog posts, as always, are advertorial free. No one is paying me, to talk about their product. It's just some really nice stuff that I thought you guys would like, too.
Let's get started, okay?
Recently, I had the good fortune (read: how in the hell did that happen) of being invited to an event hosted by the Discovery Channel in New York City, where the kids and I got to check out all the new cool toys and gadgets available at the Discovery Store, for the holidays.
At least that's what my husband, Garth (not his real name) likes to call me and my good friend Kate, anyways.
So, I schlepped the 4 kids, all the way from Jersey, into Penn Station, then waited 20 minutes for a taxi, spent $20 to get across town and then walked about a bazillion city blocks back to the train station, because I spent the rest of my money on candy at Dylan's.
So, was it worth it - sure, the Discovery people were super nice to me AND the kids - but, did I mention, the event was held in a candy store...and that there would be candy...oh, and they had a chocolate fountain?
More importantly, I believe that the Discovery Store Holiday Catalog has some really great educational toys (for girls AND boys) and one of my favorites has to be the Spark Talking Globe!
This interactive 3D full color spinning globe lets kids explore the world with the touch of a finger! By touching any of the seven continents, kids hear fun facts about animals, geography; people & customs; food and language; and much more. LCD screen visually illustrates learning about each geographic area and topic.
Pretty much why I'm giving it to my niece-in-law's little 3-year-old boy, Aiden...but, shhhhh...don't tell him!
So, what else does it do?
- Full-color 3-D spinning globe
- 7 touch-sensitive areas allow you to select information about all 7 the continents
- 10 activity buttons
- Hundreds of facts about people, music, clothing, customs, geography, food, animals, inventions and languages
- Built-in LCD screen visually reinforces the learning
- More than 20 minutes of audio entertainment
- Narrated by a cheerful character
Want one?
I absolutely love the Spark Talking Globe (it's very smart) and my friends at The Discovery Store have offered to send one (1) of our readers their very own smart globe, to share with your little one, too!
Because, we roll like that.
