I've been to the Liberty Science Center, before -- yes, it's in Jersey! -- but, that was 2 kids ago and I've heard it's changed, since then. So, along with a few dozen other families from the New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia Moms blogs, I was very happy to have been invited for the day and see what's new at LSC!
My friend and fellow New Jersey Mom Blogger, Melissa has a terrific blog post up about spending an afternoon at the Liberty Science Center with her boys (adorable preschoolers, that they are) and I feared for Jenn's little one, who was totally edible!
There really is plenty of stuff to keep little ones busy (check out their Young Guests Guide) but, the Liberty Science Center is also great for families (like mine) with kids of all ages.
My gang is 15, 13, almost 10 and 7 - here's what we did:
Live Science: Liberty Science Center offers fun programs and volunteers from the audience can assist with demonstrations. My youngest (Mini-me is 7) got a chance to help the professional science educator and we learned a lot cool things (pardon the pun) about liquid nitrogen.
Exhibitions: There are nine (9) permanent exhibition galleries with hands-on exhibits that focus on, what else, science and technology and how it affects our every day life. Eat or Be Eaten. That's the name of our favorite exhibit because, well, it has living yucky stuff, like bugs.
Food: Then we broke for lunch because, you know...Eat or Be Eaten...and I didn't pack anything to eat. I was surprised at the wide range in choice of menus (fallafel wraps, anyone?) and the prices were, well, not ridiculous (I paid $6/kid) and are pretty much along the lines of an average kids meal. But, the food was surprisingly better, than most.
Theater: After touring the 3 floors-worth of exhibits, we were offered tickets to Liberty Science Center's 3D Digital Theater and watched "Fly Me To The Moon," a cute film that introduces space exploration and the historical moment of when man first stepped on the moon. This was our first "ditigal 3D experience" and it was awesome.
FINAL VERDICT: The Liberty Science Center is a fun and educational experience and totally worth an explore, by the whole family.
