[FINISHED: CONGRATULATIONS, LAURIE MURLEY (COMMENT #14) WE'RE PLEASED TO BE SHARING THIS COOL GADGET WITH YOU - PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS!!!]
We bought a pre-lit Christmas tree a couple of years ago and I was dismayed to find that, this year, after setting it up and plugging it in, half of the tree would not light.
"What the..."
Okay, if you've ever tried to put up Christmas lights, then perhaps you might agree that "dismayed" doesn't quite cut it. Especially, in describing the frustration a person (like me) feels when the stuff you buy -- not to mention pay good money for -- breaks.
Then, my husband, Garth [not his real name] picked up this handy little gadget from CVS.
He even wrote about his experience with the LightKeeper Pro on Facebook:
Note: using one of our dish towels, Garth [not his real name] staged this shot for his Facebook page, even though he insists that he's not blogging, or anything.
- OK, I confess. I hid it from sight and bought it at night so no one would see. I even kept it hidden from my wife. I didn't even let the dog see it. I know you won't believe it. But after putting up our tree and finding about 1/2 the lights not working, then getting sticker shock at the $300 pricetag for a new tree and having to go back to the olden times when you actually string lights yourself, I thought maybe just once I'll drop $20 on a gimmick. I bought one of those magic lightbulb fixers at the store. DAMN if that thing doesn't actually work! Liz said, " HOLY CRAP, the lights lit, hon, what did you do?" Naturally I trotted out my new tool like a proud new papa.
"Would you believe, I got a pitch from these people?"
Frankly, I was afraid of electrocuting myself, or burning the house down and -- though, I can't promise that you won't -- my husband and I were amazed to see that, you know, it really did work!
Then, I received a second email:
- I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving. I wanted to follow up in regards to the LightKeeper Pro
Aaaand, though we have already purchased one for our house (and we ARE keeping it!) the good folks representing the makers of LightKeeper Pro have offered to share with one (1) of our readers.
Because, we roll like that!
How's it work? Here's a quick overview from their fact sheet:
QUICK FIX TRIGGER
Most miniature holiday light set failures occur when an individual bulb "shunt" fails to energize after a filament burns out. Miniature light sets are wired in "series" and electricity must flow through each bulb to the next for them to light.
Therefore when a shunt failure occurs an entire section of lights goes out.
The LightKeeper Pro Quick Fix Trigger sends a shaped, electrical pulse through the defective bulb, clearing the shunt and allowing it to operate properly. The current can then flow through the light set, completing the circuit and illuminating the other bulbs.
