Guess what? [blank stares] Only 14 more days until Valentine's Day!
[ducks to avoid flying things]
Yeah...after nearly 21 years, together (yes, we're old, I know) my husband, Garth [not his real name] and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day, different than any other day, either.
[blushes]
Not in public, anyway.
However...I really can't think of a reason NOT to accept a shiny red box of chocolates, when one is presented to you, do you?
I am very pleased to partner with the Clever Girls Collective in sharing a little chocolate love (okay, more like 2 honking pounds of it) with one lucky reader, this Valentine's Day, courtesy of See's Candy.
All you have to do is share your sweetest love story -- here's mine, bittersweet as it is:
My Big, Fat, Un-Hallmark Moment
"Wanna join me on the couch?"
Reluctantly, Garth [not his real name] turned out the light in the playroom, kicked the dog (Doofus got into the garbage again and totally deserved it) wrapped a blanket around his shoulders and her-rump-fuhed onto the couch.
"Her-rump-fuh!"
[silence]
You see, I messed up (I know, act surprised anyway) however, rather than admit that, you know, I messed up...ahhh-ghennn...I yelled at Garth [not his real name] for falling asleep in his chair, without asking.
"I need a little help, here."
No big deal, right...um...but, what if I told you that I then yelled at him, for being tired?
"Mustbenicetobeabletocomehomefromworkandjustsitdown!"
Yeah, I made him feel like crap, all in one breath.
"Come here and let Mommy rub your feet."
Nah, I didn't really say that. Just checking to see if you're still with me and, if you are, I heart you very, very much.
But, not as much as I love:
- The way my husband makes me coffee and how sexy he looks, doing it, without feeling threatened, or less manly, by using a French press.
- The way he makes the kids their lunches, so I can sleep in an extra few minutes, every morning.
- The way he makes me laugh, with that silly grin of his, whenever I catch him watching me, every time I bend over to pick up a piece of schmutz on the floor or jiggle while draining the pasta.
- The way he makes me want to pick a fight, just so that we can...you know...make up on the couch...after the kids go to bed, of course.
[grin]
What?
I've been married to the man long enough to realize that Hallmark moments are a dime a dozen (okay, more like, five ninety-nine) but, true love is knowing when to...you know...shuddup!
"Wanna go to bed?"
Nope, the couch will do juuuuust fine!
