I am very excited (okay, more like SHOCKED) to have partnered with Mom Central as one of their Fridgidaire Test Drive Moms - Team Everything!
Why?
Well, as I mentioned in my inaugural post (last week) 'cawse nobody breaks stuff, like I do!
No, I haven't named them...yet...but, we FINALLY had our new Frigidaire appliances installed for a week now (minus, the washer and dryer, which will be delivered sometime in May, thank goodness, I think) and, well, I'm very relieved to report that everything STILL works.
It hasn't been easy. Oh, the stuff works okay enough (yes, there IS a video) it takes me weeks to re-organize the house for a new couch (her name is Molly) imagine, re-arranging a kitchen in just 24 hours?!?!
There's a hole in the kitchen...dear Madre (yes, Heather calls me Madre)...dear Madre...there's a hole in the kitchen...well, NOT anymore!
Long story, short (you're welcome) we moved the gas line to where the fridge used to be...2 fridges, ago.
Creating (in my opinion) a more user-friendly workspace, but the cabinets above turned out to be a little too low to be able to fit the over the range microwave, properly.
So, for now, we have it on the counter, over the new dishwasher [pause for sound of angels, singing] where our old microwave used to be.
The dudes sent by Czarnowski were an AMAZING bunch of guys (4 in all) and ALL worked really hard to make sure that, you know, everything fit. However, Joe (the dishwasher dude) worked the hardest. Our old dishwasher (you know, the broken Bosch) had a recessed area in the back to allow for an electrical box.
The new Frigidaire dishwasher does not.
4 hours later, we were all still waiting on Joe -- poor guy was spent and didn't even say goodbye -- so, like, thanks and see ya...Joe...or, not.
So, still don't believe me and how's it all working out?
Well, in true HGTV fashion (yeah, right, as if I had THEIR budget, or a decent camera...pfffft) here's a little before:
Aaaand, then...the after...edited to be short as possible (you're welcome) and hopefully, demonstrates how fast I can tawk (ditto):
FINAL VERDICT - On the Upside: More like a blessing, or a freaking miracle, really. This is the first time, ever, that we've installed new appliances ALL at once and they actually match. Gives our kitchen a more efficient and organized feel. Also, cooking is FASTER with the range and microwave (efficiency takes a little getting used to) the fridge is a lot more streamline than the french door and bottom drawer freezer style we've had, before.
On the Downside: In our experience, getting "new" appliances installed usually means something BIGGER is coming and, in the end, there's usually some sort of custom work that needs to be completed (before AND after) right?
Now, I have to re-learn how to cook (overdid the london broils while entertaining with friends, last weekend) and half the electric doesn't work in the kitchen. Which, I'm in no way blaming Frigidaire, or installers AND having our house in mid-construction, for the last fifteen years, is not unusual, mind you.
Still, I'm a little hesitant to try the "convection" part of the oven.
All and all, it's ALL really very pretty, but now I need new cabinets and, well, a ceiling would be nice, too ;)
Looking ahead to Week 2: I'm very curious to see what happens with the dishwasher rack (it's a little sticky) next week is grocery shopping, so we'll be loading up the fridge (or, not) and it's time to clean the oven (yes, already!) and I STILL haven't been able to get to microwave manual.
In the meantime, if anyone needs me, I'll be upstairs...asleep...wake me up when Ty Pennington calls!
