I am very excited (okay, so, this is where my kids would interrupt and suggest, "SHOCKED," as a more accurate describe of my reaction) to have partnered with Mom Central as one of their Fridgidaire Test Drive Moms - Team Everything!
Why?
Well, as I mentioned in my inaugural post, 'cawse nobody breaks stuff, like I do!
We survived THE BIG INSTALL and my attempts at burning down the house, not to mention, nearly snapping the wheels off the dishwasher and using the over-the-range-microwave as a, well, on-the-counter-for-now-microwave.
Seriously, if there was an Olympic event, specifically for "breaking and/or making appliances smoke," well, our walls would be covered with gold, instead of fingerprints and dog snot.
You're welcome!
It's been a rough couple of weeks, at our house, since my last post (gosh, but I hate it when real life happens) and, truth be told, my family is STILL having a hard time adjusting to my work schedule.
[rubs sore muscles, behind neck]
Me, too!
Today, I thought we'd have some fun ('cawse, it's my blog) and perhaps play a little game, I just made up called, Fridge or Dare! So, what's in your fridge?
[cue really eerie music]
Yes, I am a little scared for you. Sort of like when unexpected company shows up and, eventually, they're gonna have to use the bathroom.
"WAIT...Let me check if it's safe, first!"
Life can get really messy, you know? There's no shame in admitting that not EVERY house is as streamlined and sterile as some ad executive would want us to believe; nor, do I need to be reminded just how busy us moms are, right?
Riiiiiight...moving on.
We've been abusing stacking up our new side-by-side Frigidaire refrigerator, against our 2 year-old French door style fridge (one of the doors is broken, btw) for a couple of months, now and, well, I'm pleased to say that BOTH doors still work!
The rest?
KEY FEATURES: [listed below, along with TFH comments]
PureAir Ultra Filters: eliminate odors better than baking soda and keep your refrigerator interior cleaner and fresher. An indicator light signals when the charcoal filter can be easily replaced. [TFH: From up to down and left to right: unidentifiable meat product, last Sunday's ham, something red and saucy-looking, chicken salad, hummus, etc...and you couldn't tell by opening the door. Too bad you can't smell my fridge (you're welcome!) but, this feature has proved itself, over and over again.]
SpaceWise Adjustable Shelf: A turn of the handle allows you to easily raise or lower shelf height without removing contents. [TFH: The very reason why we've always had French door style fridge, was to be able to see items, better -- tall containers and bottles proved a challenge, regardless -- it's nice to be able to make room for taller items, when needed and, yes, I totally forgot that white container was up there...ick!]
Door Storage: door bins and shelves are provided for convenient storage of jars, bottles and cans. [TFH: In the first pic, at the beginning of this post, you'll see better how we make stuff fit. Two gallons of milk fit comfortablly side-by-side, or shelves can be adjusted for juice bottles, if needed, as well. However, these little plastic shelves are great to store cans, tins and, you know, other more well-rounded staples...as well...ahem.]
[TFH: However, the freezer is MY absolute favorite feature (compared to the drawer style freezer I had, before) I don't have to dig around, looking for stuff and the drawers are pulled out in the pic above and holds plenty of stuff, too.]
Best in Class Ice & Water Filtration (as compared to other consumer refrigeration water filtration systems): [TFH: We've been using this feature a lot -- especially, since our town's water's quality was compromised by a monster storm, last weekend -- quench a child, starve a landfill, right? We've been filling reuseable-type sports bottles more, instead of buying ALL those plastic water bottles, every week. The ice comes out fast, I mean, really FAST!!!]
FINAL VERDICT - ON THE UPSIDE: The Pure Ultra Air Filter and Ice/Water Filtration functions on this unit, in my opinion, are invaluable (in a house, like mine) and just helps make it a little easier keeping food/water tasting/smelling clean and fresh. I love the side-by-side freezer aspect of this refrigerator
ON THE DOWNSIDE: However, I am finding myself having to re-arrange the fridge, a little more, before putting groceries away. Although, the drawers seem to have plenty of room, it's easy to see exactly what's inside and each have their own humidity controls, some of the vegetables are STILL freezing and I just can't seem to get the right temp. I also had this trouble with my other fridge (slide it a little to the right and...FREEZE) will keep trying and see what happens, because I hate having to throw food away.
Looking Ahead to Week 6: My husband and I are compiling a list of suggestions and other stuff to consider when looking for new appliances, like these.
In the meantime, I showed you what's in MY fridge; now, YOU show me yours...go ahead, I triple dog dare you!
