I am very excited (okay, so, this is where my kids would interrupt and suggest, "SHOCKED," as a more accurate describe of my reaction) to have partnered with Mom Central as one of their Fridgidaire Test Drive Moms - Team Everything!
Why?
Well, as I mentioned in my inaugural post, 'cawse nobody breaks stuff, like I do!
We survived THE BIG INSTALL and my attempts at burning down the house, not to mention, nearly snapping the wheels off the dishwasher, using the over-the-range-microwave as a, well, on-the-counter-for-now-microwave and playing the game, Fridge or Dare.
Seriously, if there was an Olympic event, specifically for "breaking and/or making appliances smoke," well, our walls would be covered with gold, instead of fingerprints and dog snot.
You're welcome!
Today, I've got a few suggestions to the Frigidaire folks (having abused their appliances, since February) FWIW:
THE DISHWASHER: In case you missed it, you can read our full review of the Frigidaire dishwasher, here -- we've finally figured out why the detergent dispenser's door sometimes sticks and won't open during the wash cycle. It seems to happen, more often, when we lower the top rack (to accommodate tall-ish items) which, seems to block the detergent door from opening. Not sure if this is a design flaw, or a problem with the dishwasher detergent dispenser. Either way, when running a full load, we make sure and check that the top rack is up, since I'd hate to have to run the dishwasher a second time.
THE RANGE: Here's our full review of the Frigidaire Range -- it's a beauty, really, as long as I keep vigilant about cleaning the stove top, after each use. I'm not a big fan of black appliances. IMO, so much harder to keep clean than light-colored, or stainless steel surfaces. The control panel takes some getting used to (i.e. had to read manual to figure out that I had to press bake and THEN adjust oven temperature) I'm so afraid of blowing a circuit and, well, we've replaced the circuit panel of our dryer twice, already. (Note: Our current washer and dryer is NOT a Frigidaire -- we don't get those until sometime in May, I think.)
THE REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER: Aaaand, we played Fridge or Dare -- then, we had our first major spill (juice, I think) so, the liquid went over the back of the shelf and, well, my husband, Garth [not his real name] was not happy (having been the one to clean the mess) I just think it was because the juice bottle was laid on its side. Either way, IMO, spill-proof shelves are an oxymoron. The refridgerator's drawers don't have wheels and, when weighted down with heavier vegetables, don't slide as easily as our other fridge's did, either.
FWIW: Having new appliances to work with is truly an awesome experience (living in a house decorated in early hand-me-down) but, we're still trying to work out the kinks and, hopefully, our experiences (good and bad) will perhaps help other folks with stuff to consider when looking for new appliances, like these.
Because, it's how we roll!
