Don't be alarmed -- she's not nearly as scary as she looks -- my middle girl has been accepted into an AP high school next year, with visions of getting into Boston University (BU has an Anime Club!) while, working towards a career in communications, radio and television...in Japan!
Heather has ALWAYS had her own sense of style and the Harajuku (hara-joo-koo) teen culture is something my 14-year-old most closely identifies with.
Her 40-something-year-old-conservatively-dressed mother, not so much.
So, last year, when I wanted to get Heather a bottle of "grown-up" perfume, for her birthday, I asked the very stylish lady behind the counter for advice on what to get my manga-loving 13 year-old.
She showed me "Music," from a new line of perfume created by Gwen Stefani, called Harajuku Lovers and, well, she was right...my daughter loved it.
Recently, the good folks representing Harajuku contacted me about featuring the stylish new Sunshine Cuties and, well, I thought, it's about time I reconnected with my teenage daughter, again.
Why?
Raising 3 girls (and a boy, surrounded by gallons of pink and purple) in the suburbs of New Jersey (or, anywhere, in the world, for that matter) can be awfully difficult.

Especially, when she, or he is a free spirit.
...I saw kids in Harajuku that were all about self expression and had this unique individual style and everybody was making their own clothing and mixing and matching...

There's a fine line between embracing your child's sense of style and encouraging stereotypes (Jerseylicious, seriously?) but, we're only talking perfume here, so...PHEW!
FINAL VERDICT: My 14 year-old loves the playful scents of the Harajuku Sunshine Cuties (she's holding G - the creamy musky one) and, well, I still remember when my mom bought me my first bottle of Sweet Honesty from Avon!

Like, she was accepting the fact that I was growing up and would you believe....Avon STILL sells Sweet Honesty!?!?
10 points if you can name the actress in the 1974 ad for Sweet Honesty, shown above!!!
