As a Frigidaire Test Drive Mom (yeah, I don't know how that happened...either) my family and I have tried, really, really hard to break test the awesomeness that is our new dishwasher, microwave, gas range and refrigerator!
Then, the washer and dryer came and, well, things turned a little, you know, ugly (not Frigidaire's fault, btw) I finally HAD to admit (out loud) that, you know, I'm kind of enjoying doing the laundry...sort of...and I no longer fear feeding the laundry monster.
In fact, I'm feeling a bit spoiled at the moment -- my laundry, not so much -- want to smell?
I am awful at remembering to switch loads from the washer to dryer -- not that I forget, on purpose -- but, more often than not, the day gets away from me and....BAM!...another sour load of laundry.
However, actually reading the use & care manual (which, to me, is more painful than laundry) helped me understand common washing problems, like:
PROBLEM: Residue stains/buildup, mold or mildew stains in dispenser drawers.
POSSIBLE CAUSES: Moisture in washer; use of non-HE detergent; overdosing detergent.
[guilty as charged]
SOLUTIONS: Remove dispenser drawer and wipe dispenser and inserts with combination of 3/4 cup liquid chlorine bleach and one gallon hot water [NOTE: Wear rubber or latex gloves and protect floor and clothing from bleach damage.] Use only HE (high efficiency detergent) along with recommended dosage.
Disclaimer: Be sure to check with manufacturer (via their website, or product manual) for suggestions on care and handling of their product.
I forgot to switch last night's laundry (I know, act surprised anyway) and, sadly, it is NOT the first time. Still, with the Frigidaire model, I have yet to wake up to a sour load of laundry...unlike the other 3 (or, maybe 4, I forget) washers I've owned:
Another Quickie Laundry Tip: Moisture in the washer, use of non-HE (high efficiency) detergent, overdosing detergent and leaving a wet load remain in washer are possible causes of odor, as well.
Also, cold water washes may not completely dissolve and remove detergent...good to know, right?
I'm coming to the end of this program (wow, has it been 6 months, already?) so, for my next post I'll recap the best/worst (hopefully, mostly good) moments as a Frigidaire Test Drive Mom.
Why?
Seriously, if there was an Olympic event specifically for "breaking and/or making appliances smoke" well, our walls would be covered with gold, instead of fingerprints and dog snot (you're welcome!)
In the meantime, if anyone needs me, I'll be upstairs...pretending to be asleep (stupid summertime insomnia) wake me up when Ty Pennington calls!
