National Wildlife Week is a tradition that has been celebrated at National Wildlife Federation (NWF) since 1938!
This year's theme is "Wildlife That Moves Us" and to help families (like mine) celebrate, as well as learn a little more about wildlife, each day, NWF.org is highlighting different types of animals and providing posters and trading cards each day of the week.
Here are some of the highlights found at http://www.nwf.org/wildlifeweek:
National Wildlife Themes by Day:
Monday – Wildlife that Fly
Tuesday – Wildlife that Climb and Dig
Wednesday – Wildlife that Swim
Thursday – Wildlife that Hop and Leap
Friday – Wildlife that Run and Crawl
Meet the Wildlife: Each weekday of National Wildlife Week, the NWF is featuring 9 species of wildlife—wildlife that fly, climb, dig, swim, hop, leap, run and crawl. Click on a species to learn fun facts about that animal and also where and how you can identify it in the wild. http://www.nwf.org/Wildlife/Activities/National-Wildlife-Week/Wildlife.aspx
Posters: A new poster will be revealed each weekday of National Wildlife Week with trading cards of the nine featured wildlife species of the day so you can learn more about the species, where they live, and how you can identify them.
Games and Activities for Kids: A great aggregate of related coloring pages, games, puzzles and quizzes from the Kids site - http://www.nwf.org/Wildlife/Activities/National-Wildlife-Week/Kids.aspx
Ideas for Parents: The idea is that the educators integrate activities throughout the weekdays and then the parents do some things on the weekend - http://www.nwf.org/Wildlife/Activities/National-Wildlife-Week/Parents.aspx
Ideas for Teens: Starting with National Wildlife Week and continuing through National and Global Youth Service Day on April 22, the NWF is asking teens to organize environmental service projects to help wildlife in their communities - http://www.nwf.org/Wildlife/Activities/National-Wildlife-Week/Teens.aspx
