It's no secret, my family loves pizza. In fact, we eat it quite often (at least once per week, on Pizza & Movie Night and sometimes for breakfast, even) ordering out, however, can be very expensive.
Especially, for a large family (like ours) with varying tastes in pizza toppings, or a kid who wipes off all the tomato sauce and cheese, first (seriously, my youngest does this every time) but, still insists that she, you know, likes pizza.
Budget-Friendly Solution to Ordering Pizza Out, Every Week: we usually pick up a couple of packages of pizza dough at the supermarket, freeze them to use whenever, or divide the dough into personal-size pizzas and then top them however we want.
That is, whenever I remember to take it out of the freezer.
Then again, my kids would have no problem eating any type of frozen pizza...still frozen...if hungry enough...my husband, Garth (not his real name) and I, however, are a harder sell.
Last week, we got the chance to road test something a little different (my kids have never tried thin crust) and, although Dr. Oetker Ristorante pizza is Italy’s #1 frozen pizza and is a favorite in more than 30 countries, the pizzas we received were both....cracked and/or broken.
So, I had my doubts.
DOWNSIDE: Must be handled with care -- although, I believe they were shipped carefully enough (boxed, in coolers, packed with dry ice and still frozen when they got to our house) seeing as they are "thin crust," I suspect that my having tossed the pizzas into the freezer, haphazardly, played a rather large part in the cause of the breakage.
UPSIDE: Didn't affect the taste any, though -- to my surprise, these thin crust pizzas also heated up, beautifully -- the cheese was just the right amount of gooey and tasted like, you know, cheese and the crust didn't seem cracker-like at all!
Same with the pizza vegetale -- although, the girls prefer their pizza with cheese only -- my son and I appreciated the tangy flavor and non-cardboard consistency of the veggies, as well.
KIDS' ONLY COMPLAINT: Just wish the pizzas were a wee bit bigger -- we were ALL still a little hungry.
Garth (not his real name) doesn't have an opinon, one way or the other, since, you know, there wasn't any left for him to try...sorry, dearie!
FINAL VERDICT: If you're into thin crust pizza (like me) and can also appreciate authentic Italian-style frozen pizza that's priced from $4.99 to $5.99 (BONUS!) then, you might just want to give Dr. Oetker Ristorante Italian style frozen pizza a try, too.
