We are HUGE fans of Klutz.com at our house (not just because of the name, either!) IMO, their activity books are perfect for those times when you find yourself in need of a break from replacing batteries, or just looking for some creative quiet time.
Today, ALL of four of my kids are back at school, after spending a very rainy week, indoors, did I mention, it rained, during spring break, ALL WEEK?!?
Soooo...YES...this IS definitely one of those times!
This month, we received The Klutz Guide to the Galaxy by Pat Murphy and the Scientists of Klutz Labs (HAH!) want to see?
When the scientists at Klutz Labs tackle outer space, they not only ask questions like “Where’s the Big Dipper” but also “If I lived on planet Mercury, am I already old enough to drive?”
Well, seeing as I have a kid old enough to drive, right here, on Earth (YIKES!) my youngest daughter and I decided to check out 1 of the 6 must have tools, that are included with the activity book.
Night-Sight Flashlight: When you spend time in the dark, your eyes change so they can see more with less light. After stargazing for half an hour, your eyes will be completely used to the dark. When someone switches on a flashlight for a second...OUCH!...your eyes have to start adjusting all over again. Astronomers use red light in observatories so their eyes are always ready to look at the stars.
Sadly, according to Meteorshowers.com we may miss seeing the Lyrids meteor shower (April 21 - 26) due to the weather (stupid rain!)
However, according to Klutz Guide to the Galaxy, we will have 4 more chances to catch a meteor shower, this year, using the build-it-yourself telescope, included with the kit:
- Eta Aquarids meteor shower is May 5 - 6
- Perseids meteor shower is August 12 - 13
- Orionids meteor shower is October 21 - 22
- Leonids meteor shower is November 17 - 18
- Germinids meteor shower is December 13 - 14
Want to try?
The good folks representing Klutz.com have offered to send three (3) of our online friends The Klutz Guide to the Galaxy activity set to explore the universe without leaving the comfort of your backyard, too.
Because, we roll like that!
