We live in New Jersey (yes, on purpose!) so, I was very excited to have been invited to the PBS headquarters at WNET.ORG, New York City's flagship public TV station, and get a behind-the-scenes look at one of PBS KIDS most popular shows for preschoolers - SUPER WHY!
Why?
I wanted to learn more about the process that goes into creating children's programming at PBS KIDS and perhaps finally make peace with the fact that...YES!...I allowed my preschoolers to watch television.
Yep, I'm one of those parents who believe in the benefits of good quality television programs (like the ones my brother and I watched growing up with public television) especially, for families who perhaps lack access to educational resources we tend to take for granted.
For example, first generation American kids, who started kindergarten not being able to read, write, or speak a word of English, like my brother...and me.
Today, I am very, very proud to announce my recent partnership with PBS as a new Kids Club THIRTEEN Ambassador!

What is Kids Club THIRTEEN?
- Kids Club THIRTEEN is a membership program targeted at families in the greater metro-area with children ages 3-11.
- Kids Club provides families special access to cultural centers across the tri-state area that are engaging, educational and fun for kids.
- Kids Club also hosts “13 Fun and Free” events throughout the year, each featuring PBS Kids characters and activities, including Curious George, Angelina Ballerina and Martha Speaks.
- In addition, members have access to year-round discounts to family-friendly institutions such as The Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park Zoo and American Ballet Theatre.
MEMBERSHIP COST: One membership covers three (3) children and two (2) adults; it lasts a full year from your sign-up date and costs $75.00 -- although the "payment" is really a donation to public television!
AS A KIDS CLUB THIRTEEN AMBASSADOR: I get to share information about really cool events, offer insights on quality children's programming and special discounts available to families (like mine!)
