Unlike the Middle School, my 17 and 15 year-old girls were allowed to wear their costumes to school, last year. I know, I know, but these were the tamest of the bunch available to teens, trust me!
Only 13 more sleeps until Halloween! My youngest (she's 10) has her costume put together (mostly!) while, my middle two (they're 12 and 15) are undecided on whether or not they're done with trick-or-treating.
My oldest? She's preparing for the SATs. Enough said.
Then, mixed in with the holidays, it's birthday time: my 3 oldest will each be adding another candle in November, December AND January (no, I don't know WHAT we were thinking either!)
PHEW! I guess you can say that our family celebrates this time of year in a fevered-pitch, eh?
This year, I will be attending my 13th Halloween Parade, however, it will also be the last time I'll be able to participate in my children's class parties.
They don't like admitting they know me, in middle school.
It's a bittersweet moment, to be sure, thankfully we have lots of great pictures to help us remember their elementary school years (okay, mostly me!)
I'm very proud to partner with The Blog Frogand Fanta in sharing Our 13Kid-Friendly Favorite Halloween Party Games, played at class parties, for the last 13 years (SOB!)
Along with a chance for you (yes, YOU!) to win one of 15 Halloween Prize Packages (each worth $100) from Fanta (WHOOT!)
Okay, ready, here we go:
13 KID-FRIENDLY FAVORITE HALLOWEEN PARTY GAMES
Gross-Out Game: sit in a circle, someone starts by saying, "For Halloween dinner, my mom made me..."and each kid add's the grossest thing they can think of to the menu, "...grasshopper spit!" (Warning: The menu can get pretty gross and you'd be surprised to learn just how much information a kid can retain...when it's something really, really gross!)
Scary Food Guessing Game: is where blindfolded kids put their hands in bowls of foods that are named scary names. For example a bowl of peeled grapes would be Monster Eyeballs and a bowl of cooked spaghetti would be Frankenstein Brains. (Note: Some kids don't like to be blindfolded, so you can always set the bowls up behind a curtain, cover boxes with orange/black paper and cut a small hole in the front, or just use paper bags.)
Pin the Bone on the Skeleton: can also be adapted as Pin the Crow on the Scarecrow; Pin the Tail on the Black Cat; Pin the Hat on the Pumpkin; Pin the Witch on the Broom (you can have a lot of fun letting your imagination run with this one!)
Bobbing for Shrunken Heads: peel some apples and carve faces on them...then bob for shrunken witch faces!
Halloween Scavenger Hunt: hide objects around the house, classroom or backyard and list objects from easy to moderate to find, or amp up the gross-out factor, if you dare.
Pumpkin Bowling: use foam pumpkins (not real pumpkins!) and plastic soda bottles with a couple of inches of water in them for stability. They can be painted as ghosts or orange with a jack-o-lantern's faces. You can also use plastic bowling pins. The foam pumpkins can be purchased at most any craft store.
Pretend Campfire Ghost Stories: let one person, an adult start out with a story then each guest/child picks up the story and moves it along. The adult takes a turn every so often to keep the story from wandering into bad directions or getting boring.
Donut-on-a-Stick-Eating Contest: hang doughnuts from a string and first person to eat it without using their hands or letting it fall onto the floor wins. (Note: Can also be adapted as Marshmallow-on-a-String Eating Contest)
Cupcake/Cookie Decorating Contest: Give the kids a pre-baked cupcake to decorate with frostings and theme based decorations. Afterwards there can be judging for the prettiest, scariest, etc.
Flash Light Tag: For older kids flashlight tag games are a lot of fun to play indoors or in the yard. Flashlight hid and seek, zombies... there's a whole bunch of variations.
Fortune Telling Pumpkin Game: Cut slits in the pumpkin and put fortunes inside the pumpkin sticking out of the slits. Try to make the fortunes humorous so everybody has a good laugh.
Pumpkin Decorating: using smaller pumpkins - everyone gets to paint (instead of trying to carve!) and take it home as a party favor, too!
Monster Mash: hold a dance contest or musical chairs and be sure to have a camera ready!
Now, it's YOUR turn. I'm curious to know, what are your favorite Halloween party tips, tricks, and memories?
