Growing up, my friend Barbara and I had a lot in common. She spoke Polish, I spoke Hungarian (close enough!) along with my twin brother, we graduated high school together and, sadly, have lost touch since then.
Until, Facebook.
"Did you hear one of our schoolmates died?"
No, but I was pretty sure that another classmate of ours WAS mistaken. Had to be. Because, in my mind, I'm still that same awkward 18 year-old and, well, we're not THAT old, are we?
Then again, we aren't born with any "guarantees" or "date of expiration" stamps and cancer does not seem to care to discriminate, either way: a few years ago, my twin brother lost a kidney to cancer.
Sadly, I haven't spoken with anyone whose life hasn't been touched, in some way, by cancer.
As for my friend, Barbara? Her passing made me realize that the time we have together is indeed precious and perhaps waaaaaay shorter than we think.
That's why I am honored to partner with the American Cancer Society and Tiny Prints to share with you their beautiful and exclusive collection of birthday cards inspired by the way the American Cancer Society saves lives.
Why? The American Cancer Society believes that every birthday is a victory -- another year that cancer has NOT won-- and I, for one, take every opportunity to give cancer the good old fashioned virtual bitch-slap it deserves!!!
Here’s some background on the collection:
The card collection features the inspired artwork of the American Cancer Society’s more birthdays artists, such as Am I Collective, Andrew Bannecker and Create More Birthdays Contest winner, Marilyn Brown.
Personally, I love Masha D'yans design and you can customize it any way you wish: I added a thumbnail, on the back of the card, of my twin brother and me visiting Hungary at age 2.
From now until April 30, 2012, the Tiny Prints more birthdays card collection will be available at http://www.tinyprints.com/promo/american-cancer-society.htm
12.5% of the proceeds from any purchase will be donated to the organization to help support scientific research, advocacy, patient support and so much more. Plus, an additional 5% will be donated from the sales of this exclusive birthday card collection.
FIND IT HERE: ACS More Birthdays on Facebook; ACS More Birthdays on Twitter (@morebirthdays #morebirthdays)
GET IT HERE: Would you like one? I have four (4) extra of these beautiful cards and would be more than happy to send one out to you, or directly to a person in your life who you feel deserves A MILLION MORE birthdays.
Just email me and let me know and, if you see this note, then I still have some left and would LOVE to share them with you.
Why? Because, nice matters and cancer sucks <---- consider yourself bitch-slapped!!!
