I am very honored to be working with Hallmark as a Life is a Special Occasion featured blogger and for their sponsoring this blog post, allowing me to share personal stories, insights and inspirations in enjoying simple, every day moments, with you (yes, YOU!)
My parents have tons of pictures like this. It's in pretty bad shape and I promised to go through, scan and save as many of their photos as possible. However, lately, I find it's becoming more and more difficult and not just because I've got a couple of boxes piling up, filled with old photos of my own kids, as well.
"Why isn't Mama smiling?"
My middle girl was the first to notice the images of her grandmother's much younger self did indeed confirm: the woman very rarely looked happy.
Long story, short (you're welcome!) then it hit me, as most things do, like a brick upside the head.
"It's you! Being with you guys is what makes your Nagy Mama smile."
I often times tease my kids that these are NOT the same parents my twin brother (pictured above, third from left, hiding behind me) and I grew up with: don't worry, my parents get it and laugh when I say that too.
Because, in their eyes, my children are the REAL stars of the family and I have to agree: Glen, Holly, Heather and Hope are super-talented at bringing out the best in BOTH sets of grandparents.
Okay, me too. Perhaps, one day, I will be given the chance to prove to their children how Nagy Mama (or some other really cool and totally awesome nickname, yet to be decided) was just as fun and dorky growing up -- am too!!!
I mean, seriously, look what happened to their typically reserved Grandpa (you'd never guess he was born and raised in New England) and Grandma (a.k.a. Honey Gram) who doesn't look phased in the least, right?!?
Then again, she raised 5 children...enough said.
How about you? Do you (or your kids) have a special nickname for the grandparents? Did all the rules go out the window at their house, too?
We are celebrating my mom's birthday this week and, with the help of our friends at Hallmark, we have created this special personalized greeting card to help fill her mailbox with smiles, along with some of my husband's awesome homemade blueberry jam.
Oh, and just in case you missed it, here are more of our LIASO moments :)
