2 weeks ago, at this very moment, our family was preparing for Hurricane Sandy: what the Weather Channel predicted to be as one monster of a storm, or #Frankenstorm.
Sandy made landfall here in New Jersey, 90 miles from our home: it was the largest Atlantic Hurricane on record, lives were lost and entire communties destroyed.
We were lucky: we lost power for 6 days. 14 days later, our kids are FINALLY back in school, however, there are STILL folks in town without power.
November 4th marked the 25th anniversary of the annual Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program and I had all good intentions of posting about this program for Daylight Savings Time.
Even though the time change has passed (not a BIG fan, btw) I thought it would be a good idea to remind all of my online friends to make sure to check and change your batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors: as well as share an awesome Family Safety Kit with one of our online friends.
Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) are once again working with local fire departments nationwide to raise awareness on the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in helping to keep families safe in their homes, because:
Thirty-eight percent of fatal fire injuries occur in homes with no smoke alarms, while 24 percent occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate, frequently due to dead or missing batteries.
The good folks at Energizer have offered to send one (1) our our online friends a Family Safety Kit with a reusable grocery tote containing:
- One 2-pack of Energizer MAX Batteries (9v) with Power Seal Technology – Dependable, powerful performance for the devices that help keep your family safe; now hold their charge when stored for up to 5 years
- One Energizer Flameless Wax Candle – Enjoy the realistic flicker of a scented wax candle without the worry of open flame or hassle of soot and dripping wax
- One Energizer Weatheready Safety Light – Waterproof flashlight powered by AA, AAA or C cell batteries; includes safety whistle and imprinted preparedness checklist
- One Kidde Battery-Operated Combination Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm
Because, we roll like that.
