The League of Maternal Justice and my fellow bloggers at Green Mom Finds are partnering with BlogHers Act Canada to reach as many of us in the blogosphere, as they can - our mission for this last week of January (1/28 to 2/1) is to try and go a whole week without eating meat.

So, how's that working out for us?

Monday (1/28):  Today's not so bad - cereal for breakfast and a granola bar for lunch - sent the kids with meat sandwiches, before reading about NoMeatPoWeek - kids are Jonesing for meatballs, I haven't gone food shopping, yet and looks like supper's gonna be a stretch, though.

Tuesday (1/29):  Breakfast included Special K (with strawberries) and two cups of coffee - I know, caffeine is bad, but...one...thing...at...a...time - and a pita, schmeared with hummus, for lunch.  Again, dinner WAS the problem.  Hubs ordered Chinese and I took one bite of the orange chicken before remembering about NoMeatPoWeek.  D'OH!  So, I finished out with eating ALL the broccoli on top of the white rice.  YUM!  Getting my meatless groove on, finally!  The hubs and kids, not so much.  Maybe, tomorrow.

Wednesday (1/30):  Breakfast included the LAST of the Special K (thank goodness I get my house allowance, today) and two cups of coffee.  Skipped lunch (worked on perfect post, instead) and dinner was a DISASTER!  Nothing but meaty leftovers.  Had soup, and more pita, instead.  Seems like I maybe dropping a few pounds, going meatless.

Thursday (1/31):  Haven't had breakfast yet (as of 8:45 a.m.) since The Boy was up all night with stomach bug, Mini-me woke up with a fever and I can't seem to work up an appetite.  Go figure.  Thank goodness for peanut butter and jelly; my goto sandwich of choice!

Friday (2/1):  Breakfast, I tried a cereal that I intend to review, the week of 2/4.  Made eggs and toast for me and The Boy (puke-free for 24 hrs.) and enjoyed a side dish of green Jell-O...yum!  Still haven't gone food shopping, so dinner was compliments of my pantry:

1lb. box of Ronzoni Smart Pasta

1 large onion, sliced

2 cloves garlic, smashed

1 handful of flat parsley, lightly chopped

2 tbs. olive oil

Handful of marinated olives, chopped

Splash of balsamic vinegar

1/4 cup of red wine

1 14 oz. can of diced tomatoes flavored with basil and olive oil (crushed)

dash of pepper and salt

Sauteed onion, parsley and garlic in olive oil until soft; added olives and vinegar and stirred around for 2 minutes; and loosened up with a bit of red wine; added crushed tomatoes simmered (uncovered) for 5 minutes.  Toss in cooked pasta and cook (on super low heat) for another 2 minutes.  Salt and pepper to taste.

The kids, the hubs and I loved it, who knew?

The roundup (2/4):  This going meatless was NOT easy.  I didn't realize how much my family and I depended on meat filling out our weekly menu.  I gave up on having any hopes of the kids and hubs joining me in NoMeatPoWeek - of course, I hadn't gone food shopping, 2 of my kids were sick and believe it didn't help that starting out at such a deficit - but, at least we ARE more mindful about the troubles poor Vegans and Vegetarians must face and can learn more about the products we eat.
