As a mom, with 20+ years of experience in trying NOT to mess up her kids, I feel it safe to tell you that the secret to balance is really quite simple, because there is NO secret: balance is all a matter of perspective.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, for a family of 6, while running in twice as many different directions (sometimes, all in the same day) without one (or all) of us experiencing the proverbial crash and burn is a challenge my family and I face, every single day.
That is why I am very honored to have partnered with the good folks at Together Counts -- a program inspiring active and healthy living through energy balance -- as a contributing blogger to the Together Counts blog for 2013. In case you missed it, here's a quick recap of our contributions for the last year:
From the Sidelines: 3 out of 4 of our kids enjoy sports, so we've compiled a list of fun physical activities for non-competitive kids.
The Summertime Activities Kids Never Outgrow: Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of the summer here in Jersey, so I'm thrilled whenever we get the chance to share some of our favorite summertime memories.
Making Family Meals Work, When You're NOT the Greatest Cook : I have a love/hate relationship with cooking: love to cook; hate it when I simply cannot find the time or inspiration to, you know, actually cook something. So I’ve come to rely on a few tips and tricks to help make family meals work, even when you’re not all that into cooking.
Celebrating Family Fun Nights, Indoors: for when the weather outside is frightful, like THIS ENTIRE WINTER!
5 Winter Activities That Bring Out The Kid In All Of Us: I've done a lot of research over the years so I was pretty confident when asked to write this article, but this winter has given ALL of us plenty of material to work with, am I right?!?
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the good folks at Together Counts for our chance to connect with parents online and, hopefully, share a bit of inspiration that will perhaps help to make life for families (like yours and mine) a little easier.
After all, we are ALL in this together and some of us parents need ALL the help we can get (ahem!) just sayin' :)
