Chocolate Chip, Pear and Banana Bread

I have played around with many different types of banana bread recipes over the years, swapping out ingredients for whatever I happen to have available in the house (or not) and then perhaps combining them with some cool new baking tips or techniques I've either seen, heard or read about. Which also means that my banana breads never really taste quite the same and, well, baking IS an exact science...DANGIT!!!...and not very conducive to spur-of-the-moment...wonder what happens when I do THIS?!?...sort of recipe mash-ups, either. Oh and, around here, bananas usually don't last long enough to over-ripen. Yesterday, we had... Read more →

From Our House, To Your House: It's A Krispie Carol

Like most families we know, the kids and I have our favorite holiday traditions: decorating Christmas cookies ranks right up there with tricking out a ginger bread house with leftover Halloween candy, if there's any left. Assembling said gingerbread house, not so much. So, when our good friends at Kellogg's challenged us to put a twist on a family-favorite holiday tradition, I thought it would be REALLY fun to replicate This Full House (the house) in Rice Krispies, but then I broke it. So, according to the directions, you're supposed to bake the pieces for about 20 minutes before assembling,... Read more →

Thanksgiving Soup (a.k.a. Black Friday Soup)

I have served this yummy soup, every year on Black Friday, ever since the kids were little and I think they look forward to it more than Thanksgiving dinner...me too! It is a very simple soup that is also super-fast to throw together, which makes it a perfect meal for anytime of the year. INGREDIENTS: 1 large onion 3 stalks celery 1 green Italian pepper 3 large carrots 1 large tomato 2 cups cooked turkey 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons canola (or vegetable) oil 6 cups chicken stock 6 cups water 3 cups uncooked noodles salt and pepper to taste... Teen-friendly Tapas: easy-peasy chicken and waffles recipe.

A drizzle of warm honey and a sprinkling of fresh chives dress-up these chicken topped mini waffles, very nicely! Last month, I was invited to meet with U.S. Olympic legends and athlete hopefuls representing Team USA in New York City to help kick-off the 100 day countdown to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. I know, who EVER thought a dork like me would EVER be able to say that, out loud, RIGHT?!? Aaaaaanyway, one of my favorite activities from this awesome event was participating in helping to create an absolutely awesome brunch, in my pretend kitchen at The Culinary... Read more →

Happy Belated National Coffee Day: Will
Vlog for Cawfee

{sponsored post & giveaway} It's no secret: I like coffee (A LOT!) and most of my friends (both online and IRL) know NOT to ask me ANYTHING, unless I've had my first cup of coffee (or cawfee, if you're from Jersey). Or if you happen to be one of my teens and are attempting to take full advantage of my total incoherency: then, for the love of all things ending in macchiato, ASK AWAY...MY FRIEND! There are worse things, don't judge. Aaaaanyway, In celebration of National Coffee Day (what, it was 9/29, did you miss it too?!?) I've partnered with... Read more →

Hard to Digest Moments: Watching movies
with your teens.

I am honored to be able to partner with Kellogg's as a Champion of #GreatStarts blogger, with many thanks for their sponsoring this blog post and allowing me to share our stories with families (like mine) and (hopefully) help get each day off to a great start. Have you seen the latest Kellogg's commercials? How'd That Happen and Tweezers are part of the Rice Krispies "hard to digest" campaign, showcasing awkward moments between parents and kids. When our little ones get smart enough to ask questions that we're just so NOT ready to answer...yet...and, I'm sorry to say, the conversations... Read more →

Our silly little Loopy Krispies Treat vlog or reason #2,934 why you probably won't see me on the Food Network, anytime soon!

Disclosure: As a Champion of #GreatStarts blogger, I am honored to partner with Kellogg's in helping families (like mine) achieve great starts to their days. I am being compensated for my services for the length of the program. The kids and I are having a slow week up here on Cape Cod -- apparently, I am way too much fun for my teens to handle (shuddup!) they've been sleeping in since Sunday -- so I was very happy when our friend Sue invited us to her house for dinner, last night. "Sounds great, we'll bring dessert!" We're headed home on... Read more →
